I have been taking birth control pills for just under 2 weeks now on a day 5 start. The package says that after one week I am protected but I've heard from others that their doctor said to wait a month without a backup method. Last night I had unexpected and unprotected sex and I was just curious if I should worry?

"Unexpected and unprotected." A few days ago there was an "accidental orgasm" in her vagina. I guess sex is one big surprise but, at least, we have a bunch of spontaneous people here.

Both sets of responses are true. Some hormonal pills say you are protected after a week; many doctors say wait a month. Welcome to the real world. You are probably protected; I always tell my patients to use an alternative for the first month.

Not much help. Sorry.
