PeleusX is on a distinguished road
Out of interest, I read in places that for every 100 people on the pill per year 3 will get pregnant etc, what is that attributed too?

Would it be mainly because of mistakes in the administration of the pill or is it just the way it works?

I suppose the question is this, if hypothetically the pill was taken 100% of the time in exactly the right method would there be any chance of becoming pregnant?

There is always a chance of becoming pregnant even if followed exactly as directed..I think there is a member on this board who this happened to if i read right... nothing is 100 % there are always exceptions to every rule.. remember if you take penicillin or antibiotics it could reduce the effect of the birth control pill as well..if you want to be sure not to get pregnant it is good to use a back up method of BC as well such as the pill with the condem..the rate of pregnancy while on the pill is small but it does happen..

when i got pregnant with my son they said i prolly wouldn't get pregnant for atleast a year after stopping the pill (was on 10yrs) I was pregnant 2 weeks later.. and with my daughter i got pregnant 5 days b4 my period was due..i know this because it was the only time of the month I didn't use protection..ok and it was the only time he got it that month too...lol and she was born 9 months later

hope this helps

The only way to be certain is not to have a penis in a vagina. The hormonal methods (pill, ring, patch) are generally preferred by women in their twenties and late teens. They are wonderful and all have the low failure rate you mention. 3 out of 100 each year. Sometimes, as mm describes, they do not work.

They are very sensitive to diet supplements and other medications. The most common cause of failure among medications is anti-biotics. Some anti-depressants also reduce their effectiveness. Among common dietary supplements, chamomile (as in cham tea), St John's Wart and mega-dosing vitamin E. Any woman on the pill should discuss each and every thing she takes with any doctor doing any prescribing. Use a search engine and look for drug interactions. But still talk to the prescriber.
