i have had several sexual partners, and i have recently met somebody i really like. only thing is that when we have sex a pungent fish odour arises during the act. i don't know how she's able to have oral sex with me after i've been in her since i have hard time staying erect once i get a sniff of this!
i've read up on some possibilities including bacterial vaginosis. my issue now is how do i tell her that it's a problem? any suggestions on how i can present this issue to her in a respectful manner? THANKS! |

she's 29. i should have also mentioned that she has had kidney problems and recently went in for an operation. perhaps that has contributed to the problem?

We can all smell fishy from time to time. After 100 kilometers on my bike, I can get pretty ripe. The fishy smell in women is a product of many things. All bodily fluids of both genders get smelly after exposure to air. Hence, during sex when her internal lubrication is being drawn out.
The vagina is a whole little ecosystem of flora and fauna that are always there. This includes a variety of bacteria (good ones and bad ones) that keep the place clean and one another in balance. Although douching may help in the short term, in the longer term it upsets the balance and can actually contribute to being smelly. Because of the structure and placement of the female genitalia, there is usually some urine that has gotten in there (very small amount), some entero-bacteria that belong in the colon, the natural lubricating juices, some drainage from the uterus (especially around the period) and maybe some left over semen from "occurences" in the psst few days. Each of these can be smelly and taken together they are a potentially ripe brew. For most, good hygiene (I would not allow anyone near me until I have washed the whole area thoroughly) keeps this from becoming overpowering. In some cases, there is a low level infection that keeps things out of balance. She should, if normal hygiene does not work, see a doctor and not douche before going to see her. If the problem persists, after examination and likely treatment, other things should be thought of.

After speaking with her, I found out she is susceptible to bladder infections. She said this has caused this side-effect. Hopefully, a doctor can recommend something to make it stop, otherwise I'm scared to think how this could affect our relationship.
