Hi there,
I just had a question in regards to how certain types of birth control can and can't be used. My girlfriend and I started having sex almost 5 months ago, and since we started we have been using a certain condom that has spermicide lubricant. We both liked the way they felt, and liked that they had spermicide, so we bought 3 boxes. When we ran out, the store we had originally bought them at no longer stocked them, and they are seemingly harder and harder to find, so we switched to another brand that felt just as good, but unfortunately did not have spermicide.... Now, onto my question. My girlfriend has a can of the foam that was sent to her by planned parenthood, but due to the inconvenience and inability to find where to buy more, we are hesitant to use it too quickly. I was just wondering if spermicide comes in any other forms (like liquid) that could be applied to the inside of the condom before I put it on, or if I could even just put a little bit of her foam in the condom to provide the same effect as those condoms that come packed with spermicide. Any help/advice is much appreciated. |

Well it seems as if the purpose of this forum is to not reply and give those searching for answers the opportunity to look further into finding the answer they seek...in this case, I found the condoms we like (online in a 50 pack!) in a spermicide version *

Well, real sorry we didn't all "jump to" fast enough for you, but this is a forum answered by other Members such as yourself. You only posted yesterday, so you might want to lower your expectations and increase you patience quotient! When you have been around the block here a while helping others, you might be better qualified to comment! *
That said, the reason you are having problems is probably due to the fact that many condom manufacturers are replacing Nonoxynol 9 with other forms of spermicide, due to concerns about this particular spermicide and HIV (when condoms are used for anal sex). For regular sex they are fine, and if you got some more - no problem! (For more info, check out the "In the News" forum for a topic on this.) By the way, the amount of spermicide in these types of condoms is very small and has never been proven as more effective than condoms without. You are always better off to put spermicide separately into the vagina and a bit into a regular condom. Cream and jelly spermicides work well in this regard, foam could be a little trickier (that's better inside her vagina than in the condom). Spermicide does come in a number of forms - jelly, foam and cream. Check out this link to Spermicides for more information. Hope that (belatedly) helps. *

To give you some advice I dont' know how effective my method is but I use spermicidal supositories you just insert them in the vagina and they work for up to an hour. Plus I use extra strengh trogon condoms with spermicide and my women uses the pill. From what I understand statistics to say I think I'm pretty much covered. But anything and happen. I just pray it don't. You should try this
