Unhappy

I'm with a new guy (he's 26). I'm a virgin (I'm 21), and I know that he's going to be my first. We've already talked and we're getting tested before we have sex. He was totally 100% ok with that and more than willing, so I will be comfortable for sex when it comes around. However, I wondered if we should be tested for STDs before that, for the oral that will come before it.

I have a horrible phobia of STDs (which is a good phobia, I assume) but if he says he's clean, is it worth getting tested twice? or do they even test for things like herpes?

I trust him with all my heart, but he has been with more people than me, so I'm just a little worried that something might have slipped past that he wasn't aware of. How should I bring this up, and if he does say we can get tested, where do you suggest? I've found HIV testing areas, but wasn't sure if they'd test for other STDs as well.

Thanks so much
~Jurni

I'm not sure of any places but I would suggest that both of you get tested, its better to be safe then sorry. I think if you asked him, he would understand. You can ask them to test for other things as well as STD's.

If you are not comfortable going to your regular doctor, every major city has an STD clinic of some sort where you can maintain your anonymity.

Any disease that is classified an STD can be passed on genitally or orally in any combination. No need for two testings; Just get one thorough check and stay away from others.

If you mean labial (oral) herpes, no they usually don't test for that. There is a blood test for HSV 1, the virus that causes labial herpes, but they will not test you for it unless you ask for it specifically. If you just ask for a herpes test, they will test you for HSV 2, the virus that causes genital herpes. Either virus can be transmitted to either area during oral sex.
