One complete cycle. That is: start counting from the first day of last period; start when the physician says to start and go through the next period.

Also be aware that vitamin E and pills cancel each other out. If on vitamins including E take them 12 hours apart from the pill. Many anti-biotics also over come the pill. a "Z-Pack," for instance, used for sinus infections and bacterial colds will about guarantee pregnancy.

If you JUST started taking the Pill, chances are that it would not be effective yet.

You should seriously consider the Morning After Pill, a link to the page on this web-site with info on it is pasted below. There is also a topic in this forum on the Morning After Pill.

Morning After Pill

In any case, talk to your doctor ASAP to clarify your risk and options, especially if you are considering this route.

Good luck!

One complete cycle to become effective. If a morning after combination is used, the cycle will become messed up and you start over again. Do not hesitate to tell your prescribing physician what has happened. She will be much happier to help you through this than refer you for abortion later. God, I hate to do that and it is a requirement of the job where I practice.

Guido says ASAP and I second that.

Unhappy

I know that the pill takes a complete cycle until it starts to work. But does the shot take the same amount of time? Is it still a complete cycle before it starts to work or is it shorter since it is being injected? Thanks.

With any of the hormonal methods (shot, pill, implant, patch), see the insert and discuss it with your physician or nurse.

Plan to continue to use another method until one complete cycle after you begin. It is entirely possible that an egg will begin its trip before an effective dosage is reached.

I know that you have to start the pill the first sunday after you have your period, whether you have it still or not. Then after the first pack is done, it will start to work,

Ok amm well i was reading this site as i always do and i *started the pill like 10 days ago, but i never really came on this side of the site.
So i was reading how it takes like a month for it to be effective and such and that was really scary cuz like monday my bf and i had sex without *a condom . So now i am pretty scared . I was told from a doctor it becomes effective once u start taking it but becomes fully effective after a month.
So i was wondering how soon will *i know if im pregnant and when should i start checking for it and getting tests and *so on... thanx
