I am 24 years old and i have never been to the gyno...one reason being that i have never actually had sex with a man, i just masterbate a lot and another reason being that my mother knows im a virgin and has never made me go and i do not think she wants me to go. I have a boyfriend now and i am wanting to have sex with him but being pregnan is no where in my picture right now. I am so scared that i will be the girl that has sex for the first time and use a condom and he will even pul out and by some weird way i will wind up pregnant and that CAN NOT happen right now. I would like to get on birth control but i do not want to go to the gyno nor can i afford to go to one. Is there any way i can get birth control without seeing a gyno??? I have heard something about going to the planned parenthood and getting it but i dont know if you still need a perscription there too...can anybody help me please...i desperately want on birth control but i do not want to see the gyno and like i stated i can not aford it. Birth Control...

First, it's imperative to have a full gyn check up prior to sexual activity (as Brandye states); additionally, I push for a full gyn exam when a woman begins her menstrual cycle to answer questions and to check for any abnormalities in a pap smear and exam.
With that said, your mother should understand that a gyn check was in order long ago and should have taken you for your first one, virgin or not. You should talk to her about the need for an annual check up and Pap smear. It's irrelevant if you are sexually active, by this time in your life it's part of your general health. You are beginning to take control of your health care but you need to be persistent. If your mom shoots down the thought when you bring it up, post it here, and many can give good examples (for you to discuss with your mom) why you should be having it done annually.
Look for your local Planned Parenthood or similar clinic. Ask questions, do not be afraid to do so. Pick up literature which you can read in privacy.
No physician will prescribe BCP's without a full gyn exam. There are a few female General Practitioners (and Nurse Practitioners) who can perform the gyn exam but it's recommended to see a gyn. Planned Parenthood charges based on what you can afford, the cost is nominal and they will dispense the pills right on premises. They do not write the prescription for you to take it to the pharmacy and bear the costs as a regular health insurance company does. They are there for a reason, to help with family planning, to educate, and to prevent unplanned children or pregnancy's.
I assume you have no health insurance? If you do, also look into the coverage provided. If not, get to Planned Parenthood, you may not care for a gyn check up but it is mandatory for your well being as a woman.
Good luck.
I will talk to my mom about getting a full gyn checkup. Thank you for your advice. In the mean time while in the process of talking to her and getting an appointment, you are saying that i can go to planned parenthood and without a prescription they will give me birth control pills?????
I think she means Planned Parenthood will usually dispense them onsite, instead of giving you a script to leave the building and take down to the local Walgreens (lol).
But they are still being dispense by a DR/RPh. So technically it is w/ a prescription.
When I was in college I went to the school's health clinic. My first visit the NP gave me 3 packs of pills to try and and then to come in 3 months for my exam. She did my pap...etc...(the exams were free b/c they were included in the "health fee" of my tuition) and then gave me a script for 1yr that I then took to the pharmacy inside the clinic. They dispensed my pills there and they were only $10-12 a pack as where now I work and have insurance and pay $40 a pack =-\
Exactly Demon, thanks! And yes, you will not have to go to your local Walgreens :)
You are 24 years of age and an adult now. Stop behaving as if you were a twelve year old skulking about in the bushes. There is no need to tell everyone but there's also no need to hide what is a legitimate desire. Get your checklist done and go have fun.
BTW why aren't you employed well enough to afford basic medical care?
I'll let you Yanks fight this one out!
Oklahoma, the purpose of the gyn exam is preventive; like most visits to the dentist. Things can get going and get fixed easily when caught early; wait a while and you have some bad problems. There must be a women's health clinic somewhere in Oklahoma! I assume your mother does not get regular scheckups as well. She is in a high risk group by her present (estimated) age. Take her with you.
