It is generally accepted that the ideal position for first time ever intercourse for a woman is the "Woman Superior" position. The reasons are:

It places the woman in complete control and permits her to:

* position the penis against the hymen (assuming it is intact), possibly saving the guy some anxiety since she knows where P and V are and can more easily bring them together!

* apply the right amount of pressure against the hymen in order to break it and/or to permit the penis to enter the vagina

* govern the speed and depth of penetration

* govern the rate or speed of stroking

If a woman's hymen is intact then breaking it is likely to cause some bleeding. How much depends upon how the individual hymen is constructed and how it is torn.

If the hymen is partially or completely gone then there will most likely be no bleeding.

Place a towel under her bottom if you believe she will have some bleeding.

Just because something is usual and customary, does not make it the best or ideal.

Yea see heres the thing though...He didnt ask whats a basic position. He asked what would cause less pain...I dont know how many virgins you have sex with, or how many times you have lost your virginity, but every girl I know that has asked for a good position has agreed...girl on top has LESS pain which is exactly what this kid asked for....

I did not find any reference in Niko's post regarding pain.

As for bleeding, much depends upon the construction of the hymen and whether or not it is intact or eroded away.

Sorry doc lol. I figured best position as in one which would be most beneficial to both people (i.e. prevent pain or any "complications")

Please clarify your question: "How far is the hymen".

* How far inside the vaginal opening?
* How far across the opening does it span?
* How far {meaning large) is the membrane?
* Other?
