Any recommendations on using certain lubes over others? Especially when it comes to the female genitalia? Since my SO has lost his lust for me, my toy has seen quite an increase in use and I have noticed that since using it daily(with astroglide) my PH(i guess?) isn't the same. I prefer something that can be picked up at the drugstore, but if there is a better "for her health" one out there that isn't, I'm all ears!
Also, what is the exact difference and reasoning for water vs petroleum based?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

KY warming is good (has an awful taste though). If you are using the lube strictly w/the toy skip the flavored lubes. Plus all of the additives in the flavored brings a whole new realm of problems.
Petroleum v. water based? Some people have allergies to petroleum; additionally, water based breaks down to a natural form where as glycerin & petroleum based do not and are more difficult to wash up. Water is easier to clean up and less damaging/staining to materials. There are also silicone based products. Also, It depends on the material the toy is made of or the type of condoms the lubricant is being used with...the lube can be damaging.
Here is a site:

Nothing beats the old standbys of water based lubes: K-Y or surgilube. These are chemical and pH neutral. If you are also using it with condoms, K-Y Plus and Gynol II are about the same with spermicide added.
I would avoid petroleum bases such as vaselineand see no reason to use other chemicals - including silicone.
I like the KY & surgilube but it would be a lot nicer if their packaging (for home use) was a bit nicer. Looking at the tubes reminds me of sitting in the gyn room, a mood killer!
The absolute best I've found for his and her masturbation is a water based lube made by For Play called Gel-Plus. Just one dab lasts a very long time. For stroking & sucking his cock and general cock "play" I like For Play's Succulent Strawberry lube. The flavored lube is too precious to waste on masturbating (it's more expensive) and a single dab also doesn't last as long as a single dab of the Gel-Plus does = double whammy on cost.
Actually, silicone lube is the only hypoallergenic lubricant available.
Where I got this info
The only problem with silicone lube is that it isn't compatible with certain grades of materials. You can always do a dab test with the lube and your toy (the reaction is an immediate bonding) and may want to invest in another toy that is non toxic, phthalate free and hypoallergenic. Silicone is best, elastomer is a close second.
For Instance or For Instance
Keep in mind that the grade of material is what makes the difference. Like, there is not much difference between a jelly toy and a silicone/jelly mix. 100% platinum grade silicone or elastomer are best.
We like Wet original for everything except anal. For anal we use Wet Platinum.
OK, put a glob of water based lube in your palm and rub your hands together. Ten minutes later, wipe them clean and then wash them. Nothing left. Now do that with silicon based lube. Can't get it off, can you?
In medical procedures we use water based lubes for a reason.
There is some silicone lube that does wash off, though not ALL do.
For Instance
I was simply answering her question about if there was one that is better for the female PH, which is what I was answering. She didn't ask anything about stay-ability (which I also think is a good thing, even with silicone lubes that don't wash off, because you don't have to reapply. Silicone lubes are also perfect for sex in water for that reason).
The silicone lubes that do not wash off will be eliminated by the body naturally. If she is using it vaginally, which is what she said, when she pees, it will leave her body.
I hope this is not taken as being argumentative, I'm just restating what I have learned in my personal research regarding lubricants.
I've been using Four Seasons Ice. It's a water based lube which contains menthol, and it feels great when the menthol sensation kicks in. (I don't know if it is available in the US.)
Astroglide Works Very Well. :d
KY warming is great, and it doesn't taste bad, it doesn't taste great, but it doesn't taste bad. However, a word of warning, do NOT try it for anal. I made the mistake of getting some inside of my ex-girl friends ass, and she almost killed me. She said that it burned horribly. As a matter of fact, we broke up not too long after that, lol.
well i have just discovered that while having sex in the shower, suave conditioner is an EXCELLENT conveinent lube. It dosent burn or irritate. Im sure other conditioners are similar.
WARNING! Durex Tingle is an evil lube - never use it, the slightest bit too much and both of you (especially the lady) will be in agony! It burns!!
However O'My Flavoured Lubes are great and yummy too, as is Vielle for a normal one-nice n soft!
you see i think you cant beet durex tingle, it's over the counter stuff and pretty cheap but i find i perfer it to the more expensive ones.
KY or Astroglide.
I like Astroglide for a water based lube and ID Velvet for silicone.
astroglide gave me a wierd burning feeling. KY is slightly better though still mildly irritating, and has that godawful sticky residue. the only other brand i've tried was WET and it wasn't very slippery at all...
Eminatic, you may want to look into the paraben and glycerin free Astroglide:

thanks for the info suki- i might give that a try
Astroglide or any drug store brand lubricating jelly. CVS's is great!
am i missing something here?
all the times i've tried astroglide it didn't feel NEAR slippery enough
yet i keep hearing everywhere that astroglide is the best lube around
If you are in the U.K., go to Boots the Chemist and ask for "Aqueous Cream B.P." - it is not out on the shelves as it is sold as a dermatological cream for relief of dry skin (which it is great for!).
However, it is also widely acknowledged as an excellent lubricant. It is a non-perfumed cream that is non-greasy, absorbs easily but maintains its lubricating quality for some time. It is safe to use internally for the vagina or anus ... and is even good for regular massage.
You can buy it in a tube or pot(tub), but the pot is the best value - a 500g pots costs just a few £s and lasts ages - even when you go crazy with it!
I am going to go against the common grain here really, nothing beats a good silicone based lube and all my partners I have used it with agree.
Water based lubes dont stay slippery long, dont lube that well, and after you feel like you just soaked your genetalia in maple syrup. You feel gross and its very unpleasant.
Oil based lubes need no explanation - its oil based. No thanks.
Tingling lubes I use on some occasions however never on their own. A little dab of the durex tingle along with something else is nice sparsely however if we only use that we tend to get unhappy pretty quick. Same thing if I used anything with spermicide with anyone - always seems to burn both partners unfortuanately.
Silicone based lubes only require a little bit, you still get quite a lot of friction and heat, they will always outlast any other lube, they can be re-activated by just introducing some moisture, and they dont feel gross after.
Cleanup, we dont really worry about- I leave it on me and go about my day just like her. Its not uncomfortable or a problem so who cares? It feels almost like a skin moisturizer when it dries - kinda softens the skin and feels smooth.
Yes its more expensive, but you use so much less its cheaper in the long run.
I very very very strongly recommend velvet made by I.D. - stuff is the best I have found trying dozens of lubes over time. I have tried the regular millenium which is great, but go the extra mile and get the velvet - you will thank me
For hard anal play we use a little china anal balm to numb and some cherry scented stuff just plain labeled "anal lube" which is thicker.
