Best Erection When Sleeping... Help Needed?

I had a personal question regarding my erectile functioning. I've noticed that my strongest and longest lasting erections occur when I wake up in the morning or after a nap, and I would like to consistently have that kind of quality.

My question is how to achieve "sleep erections" without the inconvenience of lapsing into unconsciousness?

I am easily able to get it up, but whether it is masturbation or a sexual encounter, I am unable to make it last longer than 2-3 minutes. I am able to finish with a half flaccid penis when I masturbate, but it is very rare for me to come during love making.

I'm aware of the mind's role in sustaining arousal, and fantasy does help to a certain extent. In addition, I don't believe performance anxiety is an issue for me because I'm confident in my ability to please even without a marathon session (and 7 minutes is supposed to be optimal anyway).

Lastly here is some miscellaneous background information if it is relevant... I'm 24 years old with no history of health problems. My diet is admittedly poor, but I take multi-vitamins to dampen the ill effects. The only medication I'm taking at the moment is propecia.

Thank you in advance for your advice/comments!

Your question and concerns are very common. I doubt that there are too many men alive who do not want to have very hard erections--and, every day. Have you queried GOOGLE and other search engines for information?

Morning erections actually begin when asleep and during REM {rapid eye movement) and what you wake up to are the tail ends of hard on's that happened during the night. Morning erections begin as a result of testosterone levels being higher and as a result of having been in a very relaxed state.

The only other time I am aware of erections occurring that are so hard they feel like they are to burst is when a couple are together and there are "sparks" and pheromones flying between them. The rest of the time we are just going to have to get by with what we get in the moment.

> I am unable to make it last longer than 2-3 minutes.

Please clarify, are you saying that you cannot keep an erection for longer or that you climax before the three minutes are up?

What are you doing to build and maintain your erection when making love? All too often guys and gals simply leave the penis alone to fend for itself believing that because it is erect it no longer requires attention. WRONG. Nothing is further from the truth.

If you are climaxing before intending to, this may or may not be Premature Ejaculation. It is if your climax occurs within the first few strokes; otherwise, it is simply an untimely event. Either way the fixes are the same and are described in an article found in the Index at the top of the main screen.

I hope this is of help. Got questions?

To clarify, I am unable to keep an erection for longer than 2-3 minutes.

During foreplay I have noticed that dry manual touching can keep me hard through teasing, tickling, and stroking for much longer than the 2-3 minutes. However, as soon as it gets wet through vaginal lubricant, lotion, or water the sensations change. Then manual stimulation simply cannot maintain it. The same effect happens when a condom is used because sensation is drastically reduced.

This is problematic because intercourse occurs either unprotected or protected, and neither offers the feeling to keep me erect (I attribute the conditioning of my penis to over a decade of dry masturbation).

Paradoxically, i find that fellatio will get me hard every time even though it is wet. However, my partner does not like the taste of her own fluids nor the taste of rubber after peeling of a condom off an unsuccessful coitus attempt. Therefore, I feel selfish for asking her to engage in oral, and I would prefer another solution.

We have done fellatio right before intercourse, which does get me hard enough for penetration. However, it becomes flaccid before reaching climax. In a previous post you recommended that the man be near climax before intercourse, but fellatio has never brought me to climax before, so I'm not sure if that is a reliable way to reach that "ozone layer".

Sorry for the information dump, and the long time it took for me to view your reply. I appreciate the time you're taking to answer. Can you suggest anything for me? Or can I provide you with more information?

Try seeing if pot does the trick. Indica strain more specifically. Some like it, some hate it. I call it instant morningwood for the exact description you gave.

Doc gives some good advice but pharmacological effects are being ignored. First off, ignore the advice about cannabis; that will actually make your situation worse.

The medical name for propecia is finasteride. It has two medical uses: one is to reduce the progress of male pattern baldness and the other is to retard the growth of the prostate leading to an enlarged prostate (BPH). With either use, there is a reported side effect, in some men, exactly as you describe. At least one major study, done in Sweden, was done in response to similar complaints and found, among other things, that the results can be permanent. Finasteride is a good drug and does a pretty good job of relieving the symptoms of enlarged prostate, at least temporarily. It does have side effects.

Star with two equally important steps. Get you eating under control and have a long talk with the doctor who prescribed the finasteride (proscar, propecia, whatever). I do not know why it was prescribed, whether it is doing any good or what your alternatives are. Your doctor, with your medical history and your body to test and examine, can reach a conclusion. He can do a search on Swedish Medical Products Agency - finasteride if not aware of the study. The study is not definitive but several men did drop out of the study.
