belly(button) anatomy

I have a few questions;
Is it normal for you belly to expand while having pain in your intestines?
Could this expanding cause your bellybutton to get injured/infected?
Which things could cause infection of your bellybutton?
Is there somehow a link in nerves between the bellybutton and genital area?
Why do I ask these things. For some times (years) I've been having some issues. And there appears to be a direct link between;
-intestinal pain and cramping and a lot of visits to the toilet (since there's no apparent medical cause, they call it IBS).
-my belly expands >3 inches measured across my belly and hip-area.
-morning after; my bellybutton hurts and is a bit wet and there's this waxy stuff that smells really nasty and sour. It doesn't run out or anything, it's the same consistency as the stuff in your ears and sometimes dries flaky. I immediately clean it with alcohol, which usually stings badly. If it's really bad, I use betadine. (this is discussed with my physician as the best approach). It will take a few days to disinfect and heal.

My bellybutton is narrow and deep; you can't see the ending nor feel it with a finger. Not even my physician can. But he takes it as the explanation why it's so sensitive to infection. But honestly; I so far refuse to believe there's a lingering infection that sometimes comes out and that the connection with cramping is coincidental. I practice hygiene cleaning it with a wet followed by a dry cotton bud every other day. It's squeaky clean and not a hint of sour smell on the days that I am ok. The typical thing also is that I directly feel a tingling sensation in my genital area while cleaning and even more so when cleaning stings. I really don't understand why that is... :confused:

I can't find much on the internet. Except how babies and little children seem to often have painful and infected bellybuttons (I'm too old for that ;)). And how some people find really icky dark stuff in their bellybutton daily due to a fissure (with me it's not daily and the wax is barely colored; clear, sometimes a slight yellow).

Any information would be much appreciated :)

As for the depth and cosmetics, the obstetrician who delivered you cut the placenta crooked and too long. I have never seen one that deep. The stuff that accumulates in their is something we all deal with but not as deeply and difficult to remove.

There are people with protruding belly buttons and this can be exacerbated by lifting and exertion. Other than some people being a bit ticklish, there are no connections between the belly button and the genitals. I have responded to a tongue probing but that is likely anticipatory of where the tongue will be shortly.

If there is no opening at the bottom, I can think of no other explanation for the other symptoms. If the depths have not been plumbed, there may be a slight opening that allows greater accumulation of "smegma" in there. Perhaps Holland has navelolgists who specialize in belly buttons!

Well, it's appr 1 inch deep and 0.15 inch wide (2,5 cm/0.4cm), based on the coton bud that barely fits in. It appears to be a bit more narrow in the middle than on the inside. My physician says he's only seen it in obese people that a bellybutton goes into hiding like this. And though I'm not skinny, I'm certainly not obese either:rolleyes:

I do remember as a very small kid that the bottom was still visible with effort and a flashlight :) I've been checked as a baby as part of standard youth health care that it was neatly closed. Could it reopen after?

I've never heard of someone that specializes in it, but since there are specialists in everything, perhaps :)
