Do guys prefer flake style or cheerio style cereal?

on why he's putting his arm around...
- walking
- dancing
- hug and kiss
- going to sleep
- laying on the couch

ARGH GUYS pay attention. Do NOT put your arm around her waist in the movies!!! There is nothing more uncomfortable. Waist is a lot better, except in movies, or when she has a bag that gets in the way, or when there is a big height difference. Make it feel natural! When it is uncomfortable, it is so awkward and annoying.

In public I prefer hand holding, or a gentle touch on my back/waist area such as when opening a door for me. And arm around the shoulders is more a prelude to a near hug or small snuggle.

Sad enough I've done that to my girlfriend a few times :(. Oh well shes kneed me in the face one day while we were wrestling, purely by accident but still, I dont think I've elbowed her since lol:D
i have a small girlfriend, she is under 5 foot and i am 5ft 8, so her head is typically around my chest.
when walking i find it's hard to put arm round her waist, so just place hand on her hips if i can and if i put arm round shoulder it feels a little strange - like giving her a headlock, lol.
when making out i love to put my arms under her arms and coming back round over her shoulders, around waist is good for hugging though

I rarely put my hands on my girls shoulders unless i'm massaging her of kissing her neck. Hips are the best.

i'd say around the waist. it allows you to be closer to the girl. if i put my arm around my gf shoulder i feel like i am putting her in a headlock.
Definitely around the waist.
Being tall leaves little choice, shoulder is generally easier unless sitting then the waist.

As far as the OP's question...arm around the shoulder in movies or in bed...arm around the waist if your not too tall.
I do prefer arms around the waist, like holding them while behind if your just standing with friends.
