i am in a same race relationship but from i was a teenager i always wanted to be with a black woman - never got there though so it remains a fantasy:)

My ex is Amerasian of Japanese descent. Race did not play a part in my attraction to her. Our problems stemmed from cultural differences. She spent the first eighteen years growing up in Japan. Even though she went to an American school, it was heavily influenced by cultural norms.

When I met her she and her mother had lived in the U.S. for eleven years. I discovered that even with an American father, it was not enough to fully "Americanize" her. These cultural differences came between us and could not be satisfactorily resolved. Although, this was a part of our troubles together, other things like my immaturity, also played a part in the demise of our marriage.

Why fantasize? It's not that hard to achieve.
In my country it's pretty common. My GF and I are of different races but of the same culture.

Well, since I'm living in a melting pot around here, I must agree with Grim that it is very well possible to be with someone that looks different from myself on the outside, yet shares the same culture. And if there are differences; they can be interesting as well. Friends I've had from different cultures, have at times profited eyeopeners. It tends to change perspective and gets you more focused on the things you truly stand for and what you've simply 'learned' to believe.

As for looks; I have very pale skin myself, whenever summer starts the sun reflects on my skin as if I were a mirror! ;) I do not really fantasize, but I have always had a fascination for how beautiful the human face and body is. I think it's a passionate aesthetic sort of way; like the way photographers look at people I guess... :) Just a few examples: I've always found the dark skinned body of both men and women so extremely beautiful! I used to have a dark skinned friend with that funny frissed hair, I couldn't help myself touching it every once in a while (luckily he didn't mind :)). Yet, I also like stroking straight, very short hair, especially in the back of the neck, like my bf has. Whenever I see that blue-black hair some Asian boys/girls have, I can't help twisting my neck. The beauty sometimes lies in the mixture. I used to know a boy that was indo-italian-dutch-and-what-not. He had black hair, a little teint, slender yet muscled. He had such soft skin; his beard didn't grow much and he had very little hair on his body. He had very dark rough "manly" eyebrows and had both rough and soft linings on his face; soft yet not in a feminine way. Very boyish yet full grown; tall with a deep voice. He'd like to be more masculine, but I thought he should be proud of having such special appearance...

I haven't "loved" much in a sexual way, but it seems like I love people for the way they are. Not much for their appearance or background. Cause although some people can be very pretty or hansom, it's the inside that truly makes them attractive and beautiful to me.

yes redroses i agree looks aren't all that matters,it is personality,values ect that make the person.I don't consider myself particularly attractive but what i lack in looks i hope i make up in other ways.I am a very caring,compassionate,loyal and honest person amongst other things.I think people are like books we shouldn't judge them by their outward appearances,but read beyond the cover and the blurb.

There's no such thing as race - we are one race and our physical differences are the result of adaptation to environment. So find another word - ethnicity or whatever. I know what you mean and for the last 24 years I've found a lot of men that have a thing about Chinese women. But then some English women like Frenchmen.

Yes, Chloein, you're absolutely right! When you pick random individuals from all over the globe, there could be more differences in DNA between two Chinese women, then there is between a Chinese and a French woman (just random example). Which makes it impossible to speak of "race". Personally: I don't mind such use of terms. Unless it is used to demean someone (horrible, racism!:mad:) In this case that obviously isn't the intention. I'd say this is about celebrating differences, as it makes our human race so beautiful! :)

And I guess the attraction may sometimes be the physical differences, sometimes it is the attraction of culture, or even language.
