Anyone in a mixed-race/nationality relationship?

My fiancee' is Nigerian, I'm "white bread" American. What things should I watch for other than AIDS? I'm not finding anything here or anywhere else. I have talked to her about the doctor and being tested before I would consider having intercourse with her. I will use condoms; should I use a spermacide, too?

Thanks!!

Pete

I have a gf from the Philippines and i'm from Belgium it doesn't matter where she comes from which country or whatsoever! everyone could be infected with hiv or aids i do understand that in places like south Africa that there are many people infected with hiv! or In asia too, just check out what the ammount is of people living in china and compare it with your own country. well i know one thing my gf hasn't had sex yet... but i'm kinda scared to make the first step coz before when she first kissed me she said she was nervous! and now we have been talking about taking a step further she says it's ok but i really don't know what to believe if she is lying just to say yes i'll do it just for you or she totally doesn't want it but just wouldn't admit it! pls help me out too with this one

Okay, let me get this straight..

You're engaged to this woman, but you've never met her?

Is this an arranged marriage?

Have you not asked her about her sexual background?

Gosh, I know from meeting people off the computer.. talking to them and then actually meeting them can be a real different thing. But hopefully it will work out for you. i'm sure it has for others.

Does her being Nigerian make her more dangerous than a gf of another race? No matter what you always have to look out for STD's, please correct me if I'm wrong but her race doesn't matter unless she comes from somewhere where they have unprotected sex with random people or something of that nature.

No, her being Nigerian doesn't make sex any more dangerous than walking across a street and not looking. lol.

Also, I don't have any problem with being tested for any STD's as well as a complete physical so she knows everything about me, which she already does.
you didn't answer my whole question... how long have you known her?  Do you know her sexual history?

You just act so clinical about the situation, getting her checked out and all.  And then children after 1 year, etc.

lol and "whitebread american".  Can any of us really say that?  We're all either from different countries alltogether or mutts.
I have known her for 1 1/2 years, she is moving here, haven't met in person but have talked on the phone. Sex history, don't know.

As for the "whitebread..." comment, I didn't say this in a racist tone, hope you know that. I dated a gal when I was 14 who was also AA, so this isn't new, but sex is.
And are you being tested for her, as well?  I would say Americans probably have even more diseases to worry about.  Just because she's from Nigeria doesn't mean she's going to have diseases.

How long have you known her before you got engaged?  It just seems so clinical how you say you had to have her tested before you would even consider having sex with her.

And spermicide is for sperm.  It would not protect you from her.  It would protect her from your sperm.
lilly,

You bet! I failed to mention that here, so I do apologize making you think it's all the woman's responsibility. I'm not that naive' to think or say that sexual protection is the woman's responsibility to provide, because it's not. Blaming a woman for getting pregnant by a guy is absolutely stupid, too, as it takes two to tango.

And are you being tested for her, as well? I would say Americans probably have even more diseases to worry about. Just because she's from Nigeria doesn't mean she's going to have diseases.

Sounds like you have the randomness of life well planed….If life bows to your plan. Thetease is right though, regardless of nationality you should be careful.

She’s your fiancée but you say you need to have her tested before you consider having sex, have you thought about what might happen to that situation if the results are other than you were expecting?

After being married for at least a year, we'll start having children, while I'm doing grad school.

This question is the reason I came to this website, as I try to remain informed about as much as I can w/o sounding like an expert, of which I'm not...yet.
