Any tricks to avoiding urninary track infections?

Does anybody have any tips for controlling/avoiding urinary track infections in women? My wife battles them constantly when we have sex.

I thought they were a cleanliness issue but I've done everything I can in that department outside of swabing her in alcohol. This last one was after we took a bath together and everything. Certain things like going down on her definately increase the likelihood of her getting an infection, but I don't want to stop doing that if I don't have to.

The only other thing we have tried is having her drink a lot of cranberry juice which I'm told is good for urinary track health.

YOU use a dentist recommended mouthwash. Most UTIs are self-infections; that is, they are caused by bacteria from our own bodies. The human mouth, however, is a possible source.

Avoiding taking hot baths and showers is a good place to start. She shouldn't use soap to clean her vagina, just water. Don't douche. Also, if she pees right afterwards she will be much less likely to get an infection. I used to get them all the time, and still will if I don't pee right after.

Wash thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap, wear cotton undies (or none at all) and drink LOTS of fluids.

<--never had a UTI in my life.

You are sooooo lucky EEK!

Admittedly the few that I've had have been nothing more than my own fault, but you should still consider yourself lucky!

Taking a leak immediately after getting it on most certainly helps.
