It would be interesting to see what reaction the women who desire treatment get from their doctors. Especially a comparison between male and female doctors. These things are sometimes a surprise to the medical establishment while not a surprise to women.
I can recall a conference where a (male) doctor proposed a research project to determine if the sex drive of women varies with the menstural cycle. All the female doctors looked at one another as though the guy was round the bend. One stood up and asked how many of the women in attendance (all physicians) had varied sex drive. All hands went up. Then she asked how many had the highest drive at time of ovulation. All hands went up. Then she asked how many had decreased sexual drive during their periods. All hands went up.
She then announced she had saved him half a million pounds for research. Female physicians are much more attendant to women's sexual issues than men. Not because men are insensitive or incompetent but because women can identify with female issues.
The report posted here is a good study. The number of women who are told "you will get over it" is very high. As the study indicates, not much is known. I am willing to guess that there is a difference in treatment, or even attention, given by female and male doctors.
