No, it has not taken a "wrong" turn. BadCat is right on in saying the GUYS simply do not get it. Women live with the constant threat of rape. No, we do not think of it all the time, but it is the most common violent crime in the world and women are the only (rare exceptions such as prison) victims.
When totally unexpected, this "surprise" lies somewhere between unwanted sexual advance and rape. Every woman in the world has had experience on that continuum and most of us do not wish to replicate it.
