Yes, 2little, those warnings are real. Very few women are affected but those that are need to be off hormones no matter how delivered. Your warning is a service to many women here. Consider the IUD without hormones. Most women adjust well.
The article makes eminent good sense and the results have been anticipated by many doctors for years. Messing with the endocrine system always has unintended consequences. We can even infer that being on the pill "protects" us from some potentially exciting and satisfying flings that we may make in the heat of passion with the hormones high. And also the pill may help to keep us on the straight and narrow -looking, but without the passion that causes us to throw ourselves at some "other" guy.
In short, the artificial hormones inducing the pretend pregnancy greatly smooths our passions. It has me looking back a bit. I cohabited with two different men for about two years each and was on the pill for each of those relationships. I stayed pretty faithful and did not have a single tryst with another woman. Then, there is the rest of my life. Without details, I have been less discrete most of my life.
I do not know how much the pill affected all this but the endocrine system affects all aspects of out lives.
