No one's saying it's going to be simple or fast to get over him, hun. Hurting and needing time are natural parts of it. It sucks, but it is what it is.
But you have to be stronger than the hurt. This is about self-preservation now. This is about standing up, demanding what you deserve, and not settling for any less. Trust me, it's worth a little 'getting over him pain' now, in order to avoid the pain he'd have caused you for the rest of your life.
Friendship, respect and love, all rolled into The One that you deserve, is out there somewhere. He exists, but not in this guy. And you have to be willing to hold out for it. You have to be willing to say, 'sure this would have been familiar and simple (although would it really) and I wouldn't have to end up 'out there' again, but it's not good enough for me. Familiarity be damned. I deserve better and by God I'm going to get it.'
