> I also agree that cell phones shouldn't be allowed in High and Middle school classes, but I see no reason why a student can't use it in the hallway between classes or at lunch or something. In my college classes, the professors prefer we don't use our phones in class, and if we need to, we just excuse ourselves and step outside the room to avoid disturbing the rest of the class.
Need to? Up until about eight years ago people went to primary and secondary schools and then on to trade school or college and graduate school all without phones. From the dark ages forward, kids got along just fine without needing to send tons of messages, phone or written. As one who's been there done that, there is no "need". Stepping out--this makes the message more important than the class information, and after all isn't this why we choose to attend school?
Of all the messages a person sends in a day, I'm curious just how many are to the same person over and over. I know I'm old, but I rarely answer my telephone without first screening calls and then deciding if now is a good time to talk or not. As for all those messages I get on my cellphone, I may or may not read any of them. I don't have the attention span to read through dozens of idiotic drivel.
