I believe they look best when displayed in their box instead of an open mouth.
I find it disgusting when a person plays with it and/or opens his/her mouth so all can see it. Enough already! You don't have to constantly open your mouth wide while talking just to show off your jewelery.
Equally disgusting is a nose ring, particularly when warn by a busboy/girl in a restaurant. (Looks like snot from an adjacent table whereupon I promptly lose my appetite)
