You have answered your own question. A few stone is quite a bit of weight (for Yanks, a stone is fourteen pounds). This puts much more tissue in the area masking a bit of your manhood; there is a lot more tissue to be using the blood for nutrients; you lack the energy and stamina to get it up where it used to be.

I never heard mad mike's observation but would not doubt it at all.

Stretch marks going with obesity and you are really getting out of control if you are developing them. Controlling your weight does much more than improve your sex life.

Where smoking was the primary self-destructive behaviour of the last century, obesity is assuming that role this century.
