The concept of virginity is a bit more complex than simply/only being lost by the fact that a penis pressed against the membrane and it bled.
In some Middle Eastern cultures girls are examined either by a family or community elder in order to determine if the person is a "virgin". If the hymen is not intact they conclude that the girl is not a virgin and therefore must have engaged in intercourse at some point. She is often then shunned by her community to live the rest of her life in seclusion.
In Western societies where women are physically more active it is not unusual for a girl to loose her hymen from participating in a sporting activity, exercise, etc. With no intact hymen how then are we to determine if a person has had intercourse?
HER WORD.
That said, you need to step back and adopt a broader view of life. If a girl states that she has never had intercourse then she is considered to be a "VIRGIN" IN OUR SOCIETIES, regardless of the condition of her hymen.
Hymens come in a variety of shapes, styles, and thicknesses. Some have one or more holes in the membrane, others almost block the vaginal entrance, very few do, some are naturally quite tiny and may give the appearance of having been ruptured.
A girl may enjoy riding horseback causing the hymen to rupture as a result. Others may have it rupture from participating in other rigorous activities.
A more common cause of tearing is from the use of Tampons. And then there is simple curiosity from fingering or using dildos when masturbating.
This places guys in a unique situation. Do we believe it when she states that she is a virgin? We better as this is an early lesson in establishing trust. And what about the reverse? Is a guy a virgin, and how does a girl determine whether he is or is not?
Lastly, what does it really matter in the overall scheme of things? I understand that every young buck wants to deflower a virgin, yet the older we become the less likely this will happen. As a result, what is important for all guys and gals to wrap their mind around is that the first time you make love with a person,
it is the first time as each new experience is unique both physically and emotionally.
HELP! S/He is more EXPERIENCED! To which I say:
The Bottom Line: A person is considered to be a virgin if s/he has never had intercourse. It is just that simple. The condition of a hymen or the shape and size of a penis have no bearing on a person's status.
