For what it's worth-
I studied abroad in Costa Rica while in college. The hugging and kissing on the cheek - more or less the equivalent of shaking hands in the states. My host mother would do that when I got home from classes in the evening. A female professor did it when I went to her house to join her family for dinner one night. The hand on the leg, if it's just a friendly pat then no big deal. If it stays there for a while, it's another story.
