There are four excellent procedures a man or couple can use to control his climax.
1. Masturbation up to an hour or so before making love
2. The squeeze technique that works very well in the here and now
3. The exercise that trains the brain how to remain alert to the sensations we experience while becoming aroused. While this part of the brain is "conscious" and alert, being able to make a decision to pause the action.
4. Start 'n Stop works well particularly if you go through the training exercise, above, so you are able to recognize the sensations associated with a climax.

There are two keys to your success; first, being able to associate specific sensations with a pending climax; two, being able to make a conscious decision to pause the action until the sense of urgency subsides. This can be difficult because when we are in the throws of passion and rapture, we are also being driven to complete the act, so we often just say what the heck and do not stop until it is too late. Once the deed is done, we "wake up" and realize that we could have stopped but did not and then get mad at ourselves.
This is not unlike being on a diet, deciding not to snack between meals or raid the refrigerator; then, during a commercial while watching TV, we get up, walk into the kitchen, raid the refrig., walk back into the living room, sit down, eat the snack, then not even remembering you walked into the kitchen, realize what just happened yet were powerless to prevent the raid until after the fact. The training exercise is meant to help overcome this problem. As noted, it takes both of you working together.
Please read the linked articles. Three minutes in really not bad. You have cause to be concerned if you only last moments to a minute or so as this is Premature Ejaculation. Climaxing later is simply an untimely event. Either way, the fixes are the same. Most women report that if intercourse lasts longer than ten minutes they become
sore, bored, and tired.
There is nothing wrong with you that training and conditioning will not fix. I recommend that you and your girlfriend devote some time on your weekends to practicing the exercise described. It may take a bit longer to master just because your together time is limited, yet master it is a good step forward.
