I have many friends and acquaintances who practice different brands of what is euphemistically referred to as alternative sexuality- gays, BDSMers, swingers, etc. I was talking with a well known bondage instructor about a year ago about the use of the term "lifestyle" in reference to BDSM. I won't go into the intricacies of the conversation, but this person asserted that it is indeed a lifestyle for him and proceeded to elaborate on the reasons. One thing I remember very clearly is that he said it affects the way he votes.
Now not every American is into alternative anything, much less alternative sex. But even if the kinkiest thing you do is make love naked with the lights on and the curtains drawn you should pay attention to what candidates say directly or imply about their beliefs and plans (if elected) regarding legislation that might affect your sexuality. It could be access to birth control, it might be medication or treatment of an illness.
Part of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is sexuality. Think about it.
