I'd say it is fear of the unknown. Some men seem to assume that if a friend is homosexual, then he must be trying to get off with any male he sees. I assume the reality is that homosexual people feel attraction to others in exactly the same way as heterosexual people. There are some people they are attracted to, others they are not.

As far as women wondering what other women do together, 'foreplay' would be the word that springs to my mind.
