Maverick's is the name of *big* break at Half Moon Bay. It's where Mark Foo drowned in '94. It is easily one of the meanest places to surf on the planet because of the multiple areas of rocks, cold water, wave thickness, a very long paddle to get to the break, and, the least of your worries, Great Whites. Monterey Bay is only 60miles south by water and is home to tens of thousands of seals and walrus so there are whites everywhere. That region has a few attacks per year. Having lived in Monterey and watched the seals be chomped in half.......I prefer the SoCal surfing!!!! Of course Solana Beach had only it's 3rd attack in 100yrs recently and that definitely messed with my head when out there this year!
