I used to go commando fairly often. It was never a sexual thing for me it just felt better. There is a hygine issue to it but if you're wearing a skirt or something loose fitting it shouldn't matter.

On a slightly more sinister note I remember hearing how its often brought up in rape cases wheter or not the victim is wearing knickers. The implication being that if she's not then she's signalling that she's more sexually available.
