Endometriosis is a condition diagnosed in up to twenty percent of all women. The underlying cause is usually an overproduction of estrogen which prevents complete shedding of the uterine lining during your period each month. The measurement indicates a thickening of the uterine lining because of an accumulation old stuff over a period of months or years. The accumulation will eventually grow outside the uterus.

Individual cases of endometriosis vary greatly from woman to woman and need to be discussed individually with your doctor. In very rarte cases other parts of the body can be affected. The symptoms vary from mild discomfort to excruciating pain. From slightly increased periods to very heavy and lengthy periods.

It is usually found in women who have had no children but after diagnosis, pregnancy can become difficult. Anything said could cause you to worry so the best course is to sit down with your doctor and discuss both how long the affliction seems to have been present to what are your options.

Some cases are treated with progestin or related artificial hormones and the treatment can extend all the way to surgery. Do not panic; get your doctor or nurse to describe your situation and you participate in the decision.
