Psychotropic meds are usually prescription drugs from a psychiatrist. They usually have an effect on your moods, perceptions, or ability to focus and function in the world. There are also unprescribed drugs that have the same effects - weed, coke, steroids, etc. Alcohol is not usually called a psychotropic drug, but it obviously affects people the same way.
