As you can probably tell, most of my sex knowledge was transmitted to me by my peers in school and by a bit of looking around on my own. My parents' official policy was never to talk about sex, and until I got really curious and finally asked them at age 10, I wasn't informed, and that only grudgingly. So, since they didn't want to teach me about it, that's the reason I feel reluctant to talk to them about relationships, love, and the fact that I've discovered I'm a lesbian.
