The arrival of the period varies with different women. To the extent that there is a "typical" wait time, probably three days. This may also vary during the first few months as your body is adjusting. I have had patients who completely missed the first period; others, the second or third.
What is happening is the level of hormone in your system is just high enough to make some of your parts think you are pregnant, so "do not lay an egg." The level must drop to the level that tells your uterus to start shedding. I know of no one who starts bleeding the first two days.
