Do something else to occupy your time.
When you sit down at the computer or TV, where ever you are getting the info, simply tell yourself to stop and to search elsewhere or turn the equipment off. I am of the school that says if you want to change your ways, begin changing your ways. No need for years of therapy; however, for this to work, you have to be aware that you are indeed sitting down to watch and it is then that you change the behavior. All to often people are unaware until after they do whatever it is they don't want and then just say "oh well" and continue. Dieting is the same way. People go out to to the kitchen to raid the refrigerator during a TV commercial and aren't even fully conscious of the fact until after eating whatever it was they got and ate it--then they say to themself--self, why didn't I stop, or a dialog to that effect.
You can do this, you just have to decide to and not give in or let your subconscious mind rule your actions.
