The "feminine ideal" is that the inner lips (labia menora) stay neatly out site until sexual arousal and then are exposed as the outer lips (labia majora) become engorged and everything opens up like a flower. OK. Not many of us meet that idea just as not many of us have perfect breasts or teeth or whatever.

Some women protrude all the time and most are uneven in their protrusion. In recent years there has been an entire plastic surgery industry spring up around labial "correction." You can even get a hymen replaced! In rare cases the labia are so grown that sex is nearly impossible and even other ordinary activities, such as sitting, become uncomfortable. In my years in practice I have never encountered a situation where surgery is indicated.

The photos maribelle has referred you to give a pretty good picture of the variations we women have. If you go to some of the sites for labial surgery you will encounter some examples that are truly grotesque.
