I had to chuckle a little... because the original post does, in fact, raise a good point but may not go far enough. Perhaps there should be some additional indications in profiles.

A check box, for example, indicating level of emotional instability or deep-seated needs that make the person "high maintenance" or worse... anybody who's been on forums for a while knows whereof I speak.

I do, however, seriously think detailed profiles can be helpful, particularly on a site that deals in sex issues and welcomes underage posters. I think, for example, a poster should know he/she is dealing with the drama of a teen... and definitely should know he/she is speaking with one.

Sorta like the diagram Revirginated mentioned... it would be nice if people came with a "user's manual" and some consumer advisories.
