Foreplay Wand

The main idea behind the Foreplay Wand is that it can be used to tease and please, with or without its attachments. It can be used solely as a vibrator, or as an insertable toy once an attachment is screwed in. This product is designed by the Sinclair Institute, and since the Foreplay Wand is the first of a series of toys I’ll be testing from this company, I did a bit of investigating to find out a little more about them; I really liked what I found out...

The Makers of the Foreplay Wand

The Sinclair Institute is a leading resource about sexual health through its compilation of accurate information presented in the form of engaging and informative adult educational videos called the ‘Better Sex Video Series’; you’ll want to watch out for our upcoming reviews of their best selling collection. They take a relationship-oriented approach to sexual health products and encourage “trust, intimacy, and a spiritual bond between loving partners”.

The organization also developed a line of sexual health products called Natural Contours. Made with high quality materials and ergonomic shapes, they’re designed specifically to suit the curves of a woman’s body. I perused the website to see what kind of support if any, was available; to my surprise, there was a two and a half minute product description video! It was concise and informative. The presenter demonstrated taking the toy out of the box, inserting the batteries and gave a brief overview about each attachment.

Description and Materials

The main body of the Foreplay Wand is 9 inches long and pink with a silky smooth body; it is composed of plastic and silicone. I liked that its unique design lends itself to excellent balance when held in the hand. It’s lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. The head of the wand contains a soft pad equipped with spongy jelly nodules. This part of the pad can be pressed against the pubic bone for stimulation; alternatively, the center piece of the pad can be removed by grabbing at a few of the nubs and pulling. This is where you can screw in one of the 5 attachments: Tickler, Spoon, Ridged, G-tip, and Mini-cup.

An easy one-push button control changes the speed and vibration pattern. The video product description suggests leaving the battery instructions inside the tube to help keep the batteries in place. I did not do so, but found that the vibrator worked well anyway; you just have to make sure you twist the lid on quite tightly. Insert the two AA batteries (that were included in the package - woo hoo!) positive-side in and you are then ‘in business’. Although the Foreplay Wand came in packaging that contained a bit of information about the product, I was a little bit disappointed that there wasn’t any product information inside the package in the form of a booklet or feature sheet.

Critique

One of the features that will be really appealing to people is the fact that you can experiment with different sensations by switching the attachments. It definitely gives a couple opportunities to play around with sensations during foreplay. When you’re playing solo, it’s really gratifying to have so many different options to choose from. On the other hand, some may feel that it’s too cumbersome to have to change attachments. My suggestion would be to avoid using the accessories all together and enjoy the different vibration patterns coming from the flat surface of the wand.

I found that the Foreplay Wand was rather loud, which has real potential to take away from the ‘foreplay fun’. Other than that, the product is non-phallic in design and has the prospect to be a great device for couples, particularly those who are new to sex toy play.

My favorite attachment was the G-tip, particularly because it felt pleasurable when it was inserted. When slid it into the vagina, its shape lends itself to the stimulation of the g-spot. Moreover, pulling up on it while it’s inside puts more pressure on the g-spot. My second favorite was the spoon; I really liked that its soft flexible flaps can slip over either side of the clitoris and intensify the sensation. The mini-cup and the tickler were excellent nipple stimulators!

Another characteristic worth discussing is the range of vibe strength. The Foreplay Wand has the ability to achieve a rather strong vibe, but there wasn’t much range in intensity. I find that having a really mild vibe as one of the selections is a really attractive feature, but is generally more common in very high end toys. However, the price point is such that there is still a good enough balance of attractive characteristics for the price.

Vibration Pattern

I found one feature of the Foreplay Wand confusing; that is the sequence of the vibration patterns. I tried to get clarification from the video tutorial but it didn’t explain it very clearly. I am no stranger to vibrators and I found that the vibration pattern was vaguely sequenced and wasn’t clearly explained.

Here’s a breakdown of how the video tutorial said it works: there are 8 speed options and they’re either constant or pulsing; the 1st is a pulsing and the 2nd is a constant; some speeds stay the same while others speeds change automatically through several options. All speeds after click 1 and 2 change automatically through several speeds; the 9th click will turn the device off.

Conclusion

It’s a great purchase in that it provides lots of variety, is easy to use and suitable for couples new to toy play. However, it lost some points because it’s fairly loud and I felt that its vibe pattern and range of intensity has room for improvement. Overall, I rate the Foreplay Wand a 7/10.
