I have a thing for quotes :) I pick them up while watching tv and movies, talking to colleagues and friends, accidentally hear them on the street, come across them while surfing the net, where-ever. They bring a smile on my face. Or someone hits the nail on the head. In some way: they just make an impression and stick. So it seems like a great idea to start a thread with quotes. Please jump in and share! :)

Quotes of the day

Now Fry has got the spirit!!! :)
"You can't give up hope just because it's hopeless!
You gotta hope even more, and cover your ears and go blah blah blah blah blah blah!"
Futurama. Season 4, episode 8: Godfellas
Priest: Did you want confession?
El Mariachi: Maybe later father... Cause where I'm going, I'd just have to come right back
Movie: Desperado, 1995
"Momy, why does money exist?"
Me when I was eight years old, my mother keeps reminding me that one, I hate money and I'd gladly come back to trading for stuff.
"Your heart's a mess
You won't admit to it
It makes no sense
But I'm desperate to connect!
And you, you can't live like this"
Comes with a cute video including strange creatures carrying the night away:
Hearts a Mess - YouTube
Gotye, album: Like drawing blood, song: Hearts a mess, 2006
PS: there's also a pretty video that goes with the quote from 11-13-2011. I love his facial expression and the symbolic use of paint :)
Gotye feat. Kimbra- Somebody That I Used To Know - YouTube
"I'm living with your memory
in the attic in my mind
And you've been getting by without me
But I've been spending all my time
with a girl that I remember
who'll never leave or need to grow
Cause when you left, you left your memory
Now it's the only thing I know
When the past gives me no comfort
And though the future is the cost
The way I'm choosing to remember
I'll forever be the man I never was"
Gotye, album: Boardface, song: The only thing I know, 2003
There's an interesting music-video that goes with the mentioned song, containing an interview with 73-year old Georgina Spelvin, former porn actress, together with images of her most famous movie "The Devil in Miss Jones". Mind you: EXPLICIT content! Paradise Circus Massive Attack Blog
Somehow I don't find the video revolting at all, like some do. It has a certain sad sweetness to it. This old lady telling her story, open and honest. It has this seeming contradiction of how people grow old. How bodies become fragile when we age, yet the spirit is much alive, as is clear in her vivid eyes. It seems to point out how old people were once young too, while we tend to forget young people will grow old. How movies capture a moment in time that from then on will exist forever. And perhaps; how when we age we're really not that different on the inside from who we once were, at all.
Anyways, a quote I like:
"An orgasm is that point in time that can't be measured, a mystical instinct that doesn't really exist in this dimension"
Georgina Spelvin & Massive Attack, music video: Paradise Circus, 2010
"Love is like a sin, my love,
For the one that feels it the most"
Massive Attack, album: Heligoland, song: Paradise Circus, 2010
"I felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can be addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end... always the end"
Gotye feat Kimbra, album: Making mirrors, song: Somebody that I used to know, 2011
TV is so simple...
Abed- to Jeff:
"I know how to distinguish TV from real life. TV makes sense. It has logic, structure, rules. And likable leading men. In real life we have... you."
...see the irony of a comedy commenting on real life by referring to another character as representative? ;):):D
Community, season & episode ?? (if you know, do tell)
Well somebody appears to be investigating things that begin with the letter V...:):D
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
Movie: V for Vendetta, 2006
PS: this movie is filled with nice quotes! :)
**How'd you finally do it?
>>Do what?
**Manage to give a woman flowers and be President at the same time.
>>Well it turns out, I've got a rose garden.
Movie: The American President, 1995
When dining fancy it is okay to crack your knuckles, just don't knuckle your crack.
from comedian Larry the cable guy on his show "Only in America" episode 1
What being a girl is all about ;):):D
How do you convince an eight-year old girl to go to a party she doesn't want to go to? I have no idea. So, I thought I'd ask someone who used to be an eight-year old girl.
Get her a beautiful, sparkly, pink party dress and a princess tiara. If she doesn't want it, I've got an event coming up I'd wear it to.
Actually, getting Rose a dress is a great idea. Thanx Linda! You really are a girl!
Yep, and it's not just the genitals, it's a whole lifestyle.
Conversation between Ted and Linda
Better of Ted, season 2, episode 12- "It's My Party and I'll Lie If I Want To"
i have a thing for making up quotes......
here's one i told my cousin the other day about trying to get over a girl that has broken up with him and then continues to call him out of pity and nosiness
When you're not doing something, you're doing something. And when you're doing something, you're not doing something.
and here is one i use to refer to myself and still do
I'm like coffee in the morning, wake up and get you some!!
This fog is so thick I can't see my own cataract.
said by Mr Burns after crash landing with an airplane on a bright day :)
The Simpsons Season 9 Episode 20- "The trouble of trillions"
Yep, it's a bit of an in(sight) joke ;)
Glad you like it, Big! :) I thought I was the only one not totally geeky (or am I? ;)) that watches these series occasionally!
Did a quick search; your quote allegedly came from the mouth of Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance.
I'd like to share another one that made me laugh yesterday (of a series I absolutely undoubtedly love watching! :)):
I didn't think it was physically possible but this both sucks and blows.
Off course said by the kindhearted little rebel of the family ;)
The Simpsons Season 10 Episode 15- "Screaming Yellow Honkers"
First one for starters; in the world of geeks everything is so simple! ;)
I suggest we treat our relationship as if it were a crashed computer and restore it to the last point we both agree it worked
The Big Bang Theory, Season 4 - Episode: The Agreement Dissection
Well I would like to start with mine being my signature.
One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure it's worth watching.

British agent opens the door of a ski-lift while it's moving high above the ground, a beautiful woman standing behind him (no doubt Russian), to who he says before jumping down:
"I've had sex with a lot of women
and I can tell you that YOU...
...should probably get yourself tested."
American Dad, Season 3- episode 10: "The tearjerker"
Now, if groups like Moral Majority have their way, there won't be any sex education at school, and our kids will be the dumbest in the world when it comes to sex.... But our parents are sexually retarded too.... Fear and primitive morals are creating a sexual pressure-cooker in this country and soon the top will blow.... Only in the U.S. do we find children drawing a picture of a baby coming from the clouds or from under a cabbage leaf. ~Floyd Martinson
"A whole lot of nothing means a whole lot of something," ~ My stepson
well, it's a modified one , but I think that it applies to most all hobbies / interests / sports / life
" you didn't stop [whatever] because you got old ... you got old because you stopped [whatever] "
[place the relevant word into the bracket]
After one of my older sisters was taunted about her name I said
"What is a name but a rose, call it otherwise and it is still a rose, with a name a person changes it but they are still them are they not"-William Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet
"Feelling lucky punk, huh, do ya?"-Clint Eastwood
"Remember, the big brother has his eyes on you"-George Orwell: 1984

"Anna, you're a bit dramatic don't you think?"-Katelynn Esalda: Fitting In
If you don't know the episode, I'll leave it up to your imagination what the answer is ;) I actually thought the guess was pretty good
**It's a portal, an opening through which all light, goodness, rejuvenation, joy, and ecstasy may enter the human form.
>>A vagina?
Family Guy, Season 4- episode 18: The Father, the Son and the Holy Fonz
Principle Snyder commenting as he witnesses the first day of school:
"I mean, it's incredible. One day the campus is completely bare. Empty. The next, there are children everywhere. Like locusts. Crawling around, mindlessly bent on feeding and mating. Destroying everything in sight in their relentless, pointless desire to exist."
Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Season 2- episode 1: When She Was Bad
Wife Alma comes home after leaving her husband Jörgen years ago;
Jörgen: What do you want?
Alma: My life. I figured I must have left it here somewhere.
.
Tirza, movie after the book of Arnon Grunberg, 2010
“We’re so hopeful at the beginning of things, it seems like there’s only a world to be gained, not lost. They say the inability to accept loss is a form of insanity. It’s probably true. But sometimes, it’s the only way to stay alive.”
Grey’s Anatomy. Season 8, episode 5: Love, Loss and Legacy
"I illuminate all but the darkest corners of myself, at times I flicker and then turn off. I am life, the most beautiful of all sins."- My last moment A memoir of life.
"Love the life you live and live the life you love."- ??
Everyone you meet comes with baggage.
Find someone who loves you enough to help you unpack.
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all
Quote by "God" :)
Futurama. Season 4, episode 8: Godfellas
Alex Fletcher: I think you are way too talented and gifted... and unusual to let anyone keep you from standing.
Sophie Fisher: That's wonderfully sensitive... especially from a man who wears such tight pants.
Alex Fletcher: It forces all the blood to my heart.
:)
Movie: Music and Lyrics, 2007
Two fascinating quotes from Redmond (perhaps even more so when put together):
"When I was a schoolboy, I really did think that by the time that I was the age I am now, the world would be full of light and tolerance and reason. That the ghastliness of religion would be a thing of the past. How wrong I was... We seem to be getting more religious every week. It's terrible"
"Nature puts limits on us. But we don't seem to listen anymore. In our urge to explore the world, we forget that in these explorations the cost may be far greater than the benefit. Challenging any last frontier probably means that we -as men- overstepped the boundaries for mankind as a species"
Beagle revisited, 2011, episode: The Final Frontier
