Male Condom

Description

A condom is a thin rubber sheath which fits over the man's erect penis just prior to intercourse. It is a vital weapon in the campaign to promote Safe Sex. When the man ejaculates, he does so into the condom, preventing sperm from entering the vagina, anus or mouth.

Most condoms are made of latex; although there are also higher-priced polyurethane varieties available. Both latex and polyurethane are considered a very effective means of protection from pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Some condoms are made of animal intestine, but these are less effective for disease prevention. The latex or polyurethane condom is the recommended form of STD and pregnancy prevention.

Polyurethane condoms have the advantages over latex of being less abrasive and non-allergenic. This is important because polyurethane can be tolerated by anyone, unlike latex to which many people are allergic. Many women will also find the polyurethane more comfortable in male condoms. Latex is quite abrasive at a molecular level and a marathon session with latex can leave women quite sore, even with added lubrication. Polyurethane is much smoother and reduces the abrasion of very sensitive tissue.

Effectiveness

When condoms are used properly, they are about 90% effective in the prevention of pregnancy. Unfortunately, since many people don’t use them correctly, the actual effectiveness is in the mid 80% range.

Directions

Before using a condom, always check the expiry date. Never carry a condom in a hot, confined place (i.e., your wallet) and keep it out of direct sunlight. Squeeze and hold the tip to release the air and provide a space for the ejaculant (sperm) to fill. Then roll the condom down to the base of the penis. Some rolled material will remain at the base of the penis to make it easier to pull the condom off after ejaculation. Be sure that your fingernails or jewelry do not damage or rip the condom. After orgasm, the man should hold the base of the condom while withdrawing from the vagina (or anus). Once the penis is fully withdrawn the condom can be safely removed.

Remember the following points:

  • Never use a condom more than once.

  • Always use a latex or polyurethane condom for effective prevention of STDs.

  • Lubricated condoms are less likely to break during intercourse.

  • Always use water-based lubricants.

  • Use in combination with Spermicide for better protection.

  • Unlubricated condoms are best for oral sex.

Drawbacks

A minor problem with a condom is that you must interrupt foreplay momentarily to put it on – but why not both participate in putting it on, much more fun!

Oil-based lubricants such as petroleum jelly, edible oils and medications weaken latex condoms. If you wish to use lubricants during sex play make sure they are water based, such as Astro Glide.

Pleasure pack by Trojan, that's what my bf got for his first time, lol. The variety will also help you choose what type you like (:
They shouldn't cost much more than twenty bucks if you get an average size pack. (they cost more if you get a jumbo size pack or somethin like that)

Condom Reccomendations

For the longest time I was unable to actually finish in a condom, but I've noticed many people on here are asking for recommendations on condoms and all you should know is that even like female's and their vagina's, male's and their penises are different. It took me several tries to actually find a condom that worked well for me and that was Trojan Fire and Ice, but I tried many many different kinds of condoms. So, all I can tell you guys that aren't sure you should just experiment with condoms until you find the one that works best for you because honestly their is no 'perfect' condom out there. Goodluck!

allergies

I already know my skin is really sensative (i.e. I can't use anything except for dove soap on my body, I'm allergic to some perfumes, uhmm.. you get the gist of it).. is it HIGHLY likely that I will be allergic to male condoms? And if so, what happens? Fever? Hives? Swollen-ness down there? I am getting a little freaked out.

Allergies to latex condoms

I've suffered from latex allergies for years and it was only when my husband and I used condoms for the first year or so of our marriage, I could'nt have sex for at least 2 weeks until the soreness/swelling went away.
Then we found LifeStyles 'SKYN' condom and they made such a difference! They do feel a little odd at first, but a good water-based* lube, everything should be great!
Also I'd recommend another product, AZO Yeast, this is a probiotic tablet in the 'feminine hygiene aisle' of the grocery store, that when taken every day like vitamins helps keep Yeast infections away or at least tolerable, I take 4 each day and I have'nt had a serious outbreak for several months.

Good Luck To You, JMc.
*I prefer a non-spermicidal, water-based lubricant because of my allergies, you should ask you doctor about that if you are trying to prevent pregnency or diseases.
Spermicide won't make a difference with STDs and such.

Allergy Check

Different people react differently to allergies, including latex allergies. Symptoms can be mild or can include more serious effects like anaphylactic shock, which is super scary. If you are really worried about it, you can get an allergy screen from your doctor before trying a condom. Here's a good link to more information: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/latex-allergy/DS00621

sensitivity

do a trial test with a condom beforehand just to test, so you can know whether you will have a reaction. I suggest doing this alone, so that the reaction that could happen heals before you try anything. I doubt the test would even have to be in that area. If the condom reacts to your skin in any way, then dont use lubricated condoms, or use a different method. There are some low maintenance birth control options, i.e. the patch, sponge, and shot for women.

talked to my brother and

talked to my brother and told him my ra gave me condoms and he told me had them we are cool. It would be nice if someone told me about the whole sex thing.

Condom Problem

I have a problem when i use condoms recently with my new girlfriend and it doesnt seem very common. I am an average sized guy, 6", 5" wide, and have no initial problems when putting the condom on, it fits snug etc, and every time we've had sex my girlfriend is extrememly aroused, but very tight. when we have sex, the condom ends up stretching so that it clings to the inside of her vagina and my penis moves around inside it. how do i fix this problem? are they just cheap condoms? [lifeStyle flavored]
I really need help this totally ruins sex for both of us

Try non-flavored condoms....

Try non-flavored condoms.... Maybe the flavor substance is what's sticking to her vagina..... Try Trojan naked sensations condoms.

what are the best condoms to

what are the best condoms to use for your first time

Use it

Condoms probably the best i used it even though my ex girlfriend was on the patch, I always felt more secured when I used it and never had that panicked feeling when we didn't use it. They are also great for first time users because you don't feel as much (depending on what you use) but always use it although not using one feels great, but better be safe than sorry.

I am a virgin in college and

I am a virgin in college and hand some condoms to use. I dont have a girlfriend or anything anytips on using them.

condoms

I have used condoms before, and,I am 42 yrs. old.
I have no problem using a condom if the female asks me to use one.
Better safe than sorry.
Using a lubricated condom is more fun than a non-lubricated one.
Lubricated condoms are good to use when the female doesn't give out enough of her own natural lubrication.

I don't see why women would

I don't see why women would take a pill that changed there hormones and what seems to put some through hell and back or use overly complicated devices when we men can just slide on a condom. :)

has anyone tried that new

has anyone tried that new Trojan Ecstasy condom? how is that? they say its "like nothing is there". is it true? hahaha

Ive tryed them

It feels the same as regular ones

yikes.

its pretty good, if you dont touch the condom too much. the lube gets all over and is hard to get off of things, especially doorknobs. but they do feel good.

This may be a stupid question

I have a question, What Kind of condom would be best tasting? well what I'm wondering is I heard some condoms taste off so, Is there something that can help with that.

So i'm new at this...

My girlfriend and i have been dating for two years now, her and i have been pretty thoroughly active in every thing but penetrative sex, and now we're getting started. Made sure to get kitted up with condoms, spermicide, and continued use of her birth control pill, but im having some difficulties... When we applied the condom last, applying with the best diligence sex-ed has given us, i still end up with a bruise around the trunk of my penis, is that normal for guys when they are first trying condoms? I tried one out for our first time and it was ridiculously constraining, so we went on and bought some of the Trojan extra large ones, thinking room was an issue, so going from a 51 mm lumen to a 58 mm, but i still got a bruise, am i just too big or doing something wrong?

hey i have a question i am

hey i have a question i am 18 and have an older brother and found condoms and things in his room and ha doesnt know that i know he has condoms what should i do please help.

he's of age, and if he has

he's of age, and if he has condoms, it just means that he is either sexually active or may be sexually active soon. you shouldn't do anything, it's really not any of your business, to be honest. just let him have his sex life :)

Sensitive

Just after my wife and I have sex with a condon she complains that she has a burning feeling in her vagina. I thought that it may be the lubricant that we are using or from inside the condom, so I tried another brand of condom and she responde with the same thing. I thought that I would give it one more try and found a new type of condom to use. They are the Trojan Supra Microsheer Polyurethane ultra thin condoms, and I use these with the O my Natural lubricant. We now continue to have the best sex ever without any complaints after. Not only are we able to go longer(which she enjoys)these condoms feel like you do not have anything on. Good for those also with a laytex alergy.

condoms

hey,i got a question about a condom, i am a virgin. i am just wondering if using maybe 2 or three condoms will decrease the chance of getting my girlfriend pregnant. we are young and if that happened i wouldnt know what to do with my life. should i maybe use only a couple condoms just in case and take things easy for the first time just so she doesnt get pregnant? maybe some oral sex? oh, and she also doesnt have access to birth control pills or female condoms bc of her young age. her parents would kill her.

Never use more than one

Never use more than one condom at once, it is easy to tear them with the friction. However, there are other forms of birth control besides condom and the pill so you may want to check those out.

first time

about a month ago, my boyfriend and i had sex for the first time, we lost our virginities to each other. we used a condom and afterwards, we checked for leaks and there were none. i was due for my period for this month last week and have still yet to recieve it. i don't think my time is changing, as it just did last month. does first time sex cause periods to switch times, be late, or skip without the girl being pregnant?
